Fremantle

Our first day in Fremantle we went to the Perth Zoo. It was very shady and nice and cool. There were not many animals because it was a very hot day for Perth. We saw a koala, two tassie devil’s, a sun bear, a red panda and some elephant. There was a bull elephant which means a boy and a cow elephant which means girl. We watched the girl elephant play in the pool with the keeper. Everything was interesting and amazing.

The next day we went to Fremantle Prison. We did a tour inside the prison and saw cells where prisoners were kept. They showed us the solitary cells where they were kept on their own and also the punishment yard. In the old days they would whip people when they were bad. The prisoners had two buckets one for water and one for wee. Fremantle Prison was very interesting. After that we walked down to the market but it was closed so we went down cappuccino strip. Cappuccino strip is famous for all its food and coffee shops. We went to a pub for a beer and lemonade. We sat on the tall stools and drank our drinks. We then dropped off our car at the 4wd mechanic for a service and got to drive a teeny little car.

On Thursday we got up early to get to the ferry to go to Rottnest Island for the day. When we got on the ferry I chose the purple row of seats. When Isaac and I looked out the window we saw big big container ships carrying lots of containers. Isaac said they were the biggest boats he’s ever seen. When we arrived at Rottnest Island we saw lots of people riding bikes. I wouldn’t like to ride a bike because it was too busy and too hot. We jumped on the bus that took us to all the snorkelling places. First we stopped at Parker Point. We went for a little snorkel but didn’t see much so went to catch the bus. When we were waiting a man told us there was a snorkelling trail so we went back. It was so cold I felt like my eyes were going to pop out. We saw some fish and seagrass and a big rope. Once we got to the bouy we turned around and came back to the warm shore. Next stop was Little Salmon Bay. I sat on the beach and watched mum, dad and Isaac go snorkelling. I sat on the beach because I was still freezing cold after the last snorkel. We jumped back on the bus for a drive around the island which felt like forever. We went to Little Armstrong Bay and I did some snorkel diving with dad and Isaac. When we were there we saw big schools of salmon. We walked to Little Parakeet Bay and did some more snorkelling with dad. We caught the bus back to the village and saw some quokkas. We tried taking some selfies with the quokkas. They were really cute and cheeky. Then we went to have a cold drink and whilst we were at the tables a quokka came along and tried to take food from our esky bag. We caught the ferry back and I was so tired I nearly fell asleep.

The next day we went to Fremantle market. It wasn’t like the markets I was use to because it was an indoor market. I loved the market. When we were entering it I saw pants with little mirrors on them. We bought some billtong and jerky, some dragon fruit but I didn’t like it and a yummy donut. Next we went to visit the Round House. It was a round building that they sometimes kept prisoners. Then we went to Twin Fin to have fish and chips for lunch. I had calamari rings and chips and one potato cake. I really loved Fremantle and I think I could live there.

On Saturday we went to the beautiful Kings Park to do some walks and read our books. First we went into Naturescape which was a kids area where there are lots of ropes and platforms to climb. When we were at the ropes Dan came and saw us. When we were leaving naturescape Dan showed us his buggy that he drives. Isaac asked about the towball. We walked through lots of wonderful gardens with lots of different plants. Then we went over a big glass bridge and we could see the Perth buildings. After the glass bridge we saw a big boab tree that was moved from The Kimberleys. It was a hot day so we got some ice cream and ate it on the grass. I had cookies and cream. We then went to the eternal flame for the soldiers. Around it was lots of knitted and crocheted poppies stuck in the ground. It looked amazing. Around the poppies was a big wall called the whispering wall. Dad sat at one end and Isaac sat at the other and they could talk to each other. We moved the car closer to the fountains and grass area so we could read our books and playing with the frisbee. I thought Kings Park was a really lovely place.

The last day we were in Fremantle we went out of dinner at piggs with Dan, Nat, Avori, Hailey, Danny and Melissa. I only had chips and a ice cream sendwig. In the ice cream sandwich was salted caramel. It was dealishis.

You have been so busy once you arrived in Fremantle Mia. The prison sounded fantastic. Wow all the things you did at Rottnest Island. No wonder you were tired at the end of the day. Kings park sounds like a lovely place. And to see Dan driving on his buggy. I bet he didn’t recognise you cos you are so big now

Mia, what a busy time you had in Fremantle. It sounds a great place. And more snorkeling on Rottnest Island. The quokka looks very cute.. but cheeky! You certainly made the most of your time. The day at the zoo looks pretty warm even in the photos. Elephants are my favourites!
